Burnt trees and flowers at Tom McCall Hike

13 Jul

For mothers day my mom and I took our cameras out to Tom McCall Point hike at Rowena overlook and spent the afternoon photographing the view and wild flowers of this beautiful Oregon hike.

It looks like there was a fire since I had been there last and there was this beautiful view of these burnt trees surrounded by the wildflowers of spring. These were my favorite photographs from the day.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Morning

11 Oct

The last week has been a whirlwind of overnight flights, face paced walks (with my luggage in 90 degree weather, stretching at least fifteen blocks, to make it to a good friends wedding in Washington D.C. With a minute to spare), and car rides through Maryland and Pennsylvania, to New York.

In New York I spent two days at my Grandma’s house in Corning and then two days with my Grandparents on Seneca Lake. I fit as much onto that tone as possible including a protest of the government shutdown, a hike through Watkins Glen, and a sail boat ride (and paddle) guided by my 86 year old Grandpa and 83 year old Grandma.

Last night I was dropped off with my Aunt and Uncle in Corning, NY to begin our drive to Maine. We drove for about seven hours, until almost two in the morning, finally crashing in York, Maine at a hotel for the night. During our drive we passed through New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

This morning we woke up in Maine, had some coffee and are hitting the road again until we get to our destination, which was supposed to be Acadia National Park, however thanks to lovely politicians who don’t seem top think doing their job is an important part of their job description, we can not go to Acadia, so we will be off to the outside of the island.

I leave you with a picture I took right before hopping into the car this morning.

Good morning Maine!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture

3 May

I have to admit these photographs are kind of old. However, they have never been published before now so I am using them anyway. While I was in college I was lucky enough to go on a fantastic overseas program with Lewis & Clark College to Kenya and Tanzania. We left at the beginning of September of 2001 and spent 2 weeks learning Swahili 8 hours a day in Kilifi, Kenya while taking side trips here and there. We were given the privilege of seeing a group of dancers and drummers. It was a lot of fun to watch and listen.

One of the things I really enjoyed while on the coast was watching the sun come up and the fishermen come out and set up their sail boats to fish. The light was always so great and the boats so beautiful.
